Cavatine Op. 144

Camille Saint-Saens was always anxious to broaden the rather narrow repertoire for brass chamber music, as evidenced by his three late wind sonatas for oboe, clarinet and bassoon respectively (HN 964, 965, 966). The trumpet also comes with the 1915 Cavatine to their solo rights. She shows herself here from her lyrical-romantic side. As an effective performance piece, the Cavatine is still one of the landmarks in solo literature for advanced trombonists. Our Urtext edition is the first to be based on the autograph preserved in Paris.
