Designed and played by Peter Luff in Brisbane, this new design gives a powerful sound and great volume whilst maintaining focus. The wide cup diameter is popular with orchestral horn players, and gives a rich, dark sound which projects well. Great for low horn players, but this size is also used by principal horn players in orchestras. One reviewer said ‘as smooth as silk to play’.
Description
Alliance Brass was formed in 2006 by Dr. Roger Webster. Alliance Brass Ltd was initially developed with the idea of creating a range of mouthpieces for Besson brass instruments. There has always been a close correlation between Denis Wick and Alliance Brass. Roger Webster himself was a Denis Wick Artist up to that point, and many of the artists that he worked with in developing his new designs were players who already used Denis Wick mouthpieces, including James Gourlay, Steven Mead, Les Neish and Leslie Howie. When the opportunity arose to purchase Alliance in 2013, Denis Wick was happy to bring these designs into the DW umbrella. By bringing the production in-house, an improvement in the quality of production and finish was immediately noticeable, and the high quality of finish has remained a selling point for these beautifully crafted mouthpieces.
In 2023 the decision was made to include Alliance Brass as a Denis Wick brand alongside the Classic, Heritage and Ultra ranges.
