Alcantara was conceived during a tour of Spain. The piece does not, except for the occasional hint, resort to musical clich? or pastiche, but reflects in a small and personal way the intensity of life and the strength of expression in this very special country, its people and culture. The spirit of flamenco was an inspiration for aspects of the texture of Alcantara.
